Héctor Muñiz Sierra Ph.D. is a Mining Engineer from the University of León (Spain) and Doctor in Mining Engineering from the University of Oviedo (Spain). Currently is a scientist at the Institute of Chemical Process Fundamentals of the Czech Academy of Sciences. His research focuses on the application of physical concentration processes for the recovery of valuable materials from different municipal wastes, industrial residues, and mining tailings. He has authored and co-authored several publications on the use of gravimetric concentrators and dense media separators for the recovery of valuable materials. Currently, his research is focused on the recovery of valuable metals from various municipal and industrial residues such as Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) or Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE), and plastic wastes from different industries. In addition, he is working on the valorisation of various mining tailings such as iron slag or fluorspar concentration by-products.
